Why is Ukraine represented in the JIT and not Russia?
Ukraine joined the JIT because the crime was committed in that country. That is were the crime scene located. location of the crime scene. Malaysia, Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands are directly affected by the crime. This does not apply to the Russian Federation.
Furthermore, the affected JIT countries have chosen not to make the joint investigation team too large so that it can work effectively. That is why the JIT seeks cooperation with the Russian Federation through legal assistance requests, just like the JIT does with other countries that are not members of the JIT. Information from the Russian Federation is examined and assessed in the same way as information from all other countries, inside and outside the JIT.
